REGISTRATION PROCEDURE & ADMISSIONS PROCEDURE

Thank you for your interest in enrolling or re-enrolling your child at St. Maria Goretti School.  Please review our Registration Procedure, Admissions Procedure, and Application for Enrollment.  We appreciate your attention to all deadlines. 

Registration Procedure

All kindergarten applicants must meet the definition of an “Active Parish Family” when applying for admission for Kindergarten at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Parish School for the:

A.  Fall of 2008 (age 5 by September 1, 2008),
B.  Fall of 2009 (age 4 by September 1, 2008), and,
C. Fall of 2010 (age 3 by September 1, 2008).

Application for Enrollment forms are available on all school days during the month of February in the school office and on-line at www.stmariagoretti.org.  Please note that we have separate Applications for Enrollment for: 

  1. K-8 children registering for the 2008-2009 school year (yellow forms);
  2. 4-year-old children registering for Kindergarten for the Fall of 2009 (green forms);
  3. 3-year-old children registering for Kindergarten for the Fall of 2010 (salmon forms);
  4. 3- or 4-year-old children registering for Preschool for the 2008-2009 school year (blue forms).

These forms must be completed and returned to the school office with a $50.00 per-child non-refundable registration fee attached, on or before Thursday, February 21, 2008 @ 3:00 p.m.  Please note that completing an Application for Enrollment does not guarantee your child’s admission to St. Maria Goretti School and Preschool. 

Only fully completed registrations will be reviewed by an Admissions Committee appointed by the Pastor of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Parish and considered under our Admissions Policy.  Applicants will be notified by Friday, March 28, 2008, as to their admission status for the next school year.

Families of 3- and 4-year-olds (birth date by Sept. 1, 2008) registering for Kindergarten in Fall of 2009 or Fall of 2010 will be informed of their child’s enrollment or Wait List status by Friday, March 28, 2008.
           
In order for a child’s registration file to be complete, we must receive the following items by the end of the registration period.  If any item is excluded, your child’s registration is considered incomplete.  She/he may then be placed on a Waiting List (see Admissions Policy)

  • Application for Enrollment – signed and dated by parent(s).
  • Please note that we have separate Applications for Enrollment for:  
    • K-8 children registering for the 2008-2009 school year (yellow forms);
    • 3- or 4-year-old children registering for Kindergarten for the Fall of 2009 (green forms) or the Fall of 2010 (salmon forms); and,
    • 3- or 4-year-old children registering for Preschool for the 2008-2009 school year (blue forms).
  • Non-refundable $50.00 per-child registration fee (this amount is deducted from tuition, upon a child’s admission); this applies to those students who will be/remain on a Waiting List (see Admissions Policy).  This non-refundable $50.00 per-child registration fee for 3- and 4-year-olds (birth date by Sept. 1, 2008) for Fall of 2009 or Fall of 2010 is a one-time registration fee for Kindergarten.
  • Birth Certificate copy on file at school office.                       
  • Baptismal Certificate copy on file at school office.
  • Previous school records, if applicable (must include records for academics, attendance, and conduct).
  • Professional evaluations: academic, behavioral or medical conditions/concerns that could affect learning.
  • Medicine disclosures.
  • Custody agreement disclosures.
  • Information as to your families status as an “Active Parish Family” as defined in the SMG School Admissions Policy. (“Active Parish Family” status will be considered when confirming enrollment for all current and future students.)

Admission Procedure

  • We will initially place approximately 45 students in Kindergarten so that we may accommodate any extenuating circumstances.
  • The remaining positions will be filled within three  weeks of the end of the registration period.
  • A letter informing you of your status will be sent at that time.

Admissions Policy

The following criteria have been set for the consideration of admission of students to St. Maria Goretti School.

  • Children are considered for admission without regard to race, gender, national or ethnic origin.
  • A child must be age five (5) by September 1 to enter Kindergarten and age six (6) by September 1 to enter First Grade.
  • The following are the priorities for admission of registered students to SMG:
    1. K-8 Students enrolled at St. Maria Goretti School at the conclusion of the previous academic year whose families are Active Parish Families.
    2. Siblings of K-8 students currently enrolled at SMG or whose siblings are graduated alumni and whose families are Active Parish Families.
    3. Children of parish employees who are employed by the parish for at least one calendar year and whose family is an Active Parish Family.
    4. Siblings of previous K-8 students at SMG whose families are Active Parish Families.
    5. Children of parent(s) who have attended St. Maria Goretti School who are Active Parish Families.
    6. Children of families who are Active Parish Families.
    7. Position on a Waiting List.
    8. Children of families who are active parish families in a Catholic Parish that does not have a Catholic school.
    9. Consideration is given to all other applicants.
    • Commitment to the principles of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Parish & School, as expressed in the Parish and School Mission Statements.
    • Previous school records, including references to academic performance, school attendance and conduct.
    • Openings in a particular class.

                An Active Parish Family is defined as registered members of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Parish.  To be a registered parish member, at least one parent/guardian must be a practicing Catholic.  An Active Parish Family participates in the worship opportunities of the parish (e.g. Sunday liturgy, liturgical seasons, prayer services, Lenten Mission, etc.), provides financial support and volunteers their time on behalf of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Parish and School.  A vital part of being an Active Parish Family includes the completion of the “Time and Talent” survey, which indicates where an individual may be best-suited to serve the St. Maria Goretti Catholic Parish community.  Volunteer activities which indicate a desire to serve the parish community shall include (but not be limited to):  serving on committees and councils, liturgical ministry, lector, choir, ushering, teaching religious education, parish festival, seasonal clean-up of the parish facilities, field trip chaperones, room parent(s), sports coach, assisting with pageants and skits, and classroom activities. 

    A Waiting List is maintained for all grade levels as required and will be used for placement of students from the time of the lists annual review until the following January 15th.   No applicant shall be placed on the waiting listuntil they meet the definition as an “Active Parish Family”.  Qualified applicants will be placed on a Waiting List after the registration process is complete.  The Waiting List will be reviewed and regenerated annually, after the registration process is complete based on the validation of Active Parish Family Status.  Priority placement on the Waiting List is determined in accordance with the priorities for admission of registered students, with special circumstances to be reviewed by the SMG Admissions Committee.  Applications received after the completion of the registration process will be placed at the end of the Waiting List.  Parents and Guardians of children on the Waiting List shall be responsible for maintaining accurate records of current address, phone numbers, and other identifying information.  If a family is offered enrollment, and declines the opportunity, that child shall be removed from the Waiting List.

    • Non-parishioners shall pay 100% of all educational costs.
    • The number of K-8 students in each section per grade level is usually limited to 25 students.  The number of preschool students in each section is usually limited to 15 students.  St. Maria Goretti School is not always able to meet the exceptional education needs of all students. 
    • Up-to-date immunization records for all students must be completed and returned to the school office within the first 30 days of attendance.
    • No child shall be denied admission to St. Maria Goretti School for financial reasons alone.  Application for Financial Aid forms are available in the school office.  Please contact the SMG principal for more information. [All information pertaining to financial assistance will be sent from and turned in to the Parish Business Manager to maintain confidentiality.]

    When making decisions on student admissions, the SMG Admissions Board will consider all aforementioned procedures and policies, in addition to information and/or input from a student-applicant’s family, SMG faculty, SMG administration and/or St. Maria Goretti administration.
