Standard - Students at St. Maria Goretti Catholic
Parish School will use technology to access, organize,
create and communicate information for solving problems
and constructing new knowledge, products and systems.
By
the end of Grade 5, students will:
Understand the history of stored data and understand
the significance of computer technology
Identify and define basic computer terminology (software,
hardware, cursor, startup/shutdown, boot up, hard drive,
save, file, CD, memory, print)
Identify and explain the functions of the computer system
components (monitor, keyboard, mouse, printer, hard drive,
CD)
Demonstrate respect, proper care and correct use of
equipment
Demonstrate the correct use of input devices (mouse,
keyboard) and output devices (monitor, printer, speakers)
Develop touch keyboarding techniques using both hands
Save and backup files on a computer hard drive
Demonstrate how to open and run a software program and
access information using common electronic reference sources
Create, save, move, copy, retrieve, find and delete
electronic files
Demonstrate the proper ergonomics for comfort and keyboarding
efficiency
Produce a document using a word processing program
Edit a document using a spell checker
Demonstrate text editing features of a word processing
program (font size, style, spacing, justification) to
produce a finished product
Use draw, paint or graphics software to create simple
visuals or illustrations
Understand the Internet accesses a network of networks
(the world wide web) and observe its use as a resource
