Catechist & Volunteer Opportunities

Is God Calling You to be a Catechist?

Men and women of all ages – from older teens to retirees – are needed to serve in our Religious Education and Youth Ministry programs in a variety of ways. Being involved in the faith formation process allows you to deepen your own faith, meet new people, and build our parish community.

We will provide you will all of the resources you need to teach and lead the children and youth in our program. Please see volunteer job descriptions in the form below.

Ways to Serve

  • Catechist or Catechist Assistant for Sunday School with 3- to 5-year-olds on Sundays from 9 to 10 a.m. from October to March
  • Catechist or Catechist Assistant for Grade 1-5 Religious Education on Mondays from either 4 to 5:15 p.m. or 6 to 7:15 p.m. from October to April 
  • Small Group Leader for Middle School Religious Education on Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8 p.m. from October to May
  • Small Group Leader for Confirmation Preparation on Sundays from either 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. or 6:30 to 8 p.m. from September to May

Training, materials, and lesson plans are provided. If you love the Catholic faith, then please help us pass it along to the future of our Church.


VIRTUS & Volunteer Training

Any person that wants to work or volunteer with the children at St. Maria Goretti must show proof of competing the Protecting God's Children or the VIRTUS Program online. Visit the Catholic Diocese of Madison and click on VIRTUS Program Information. Follow the directions to complete the coursework.

Once you have successfully completed the VIRTUS program online your name will be added to the registry of all those in compliance. Thank you!
